New security feature helps keep HealthSelect participants’ information safe


If you are enrolled in a HealthSelectSM plan, including Consumer Directed HealthSelectSM, you recently saw a change to how you log in to Blue Access for MembersSM and Well onTarget®.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) recently implemented a multi-authentication process to make your personal and health information more secure.

What’s changing?

Multi-authentication sounds complicated, but it’s not. You probably already use this process when you access your banking and other accounts online. The new process simply asks for two types of information when you log into your account.

How does it work?

When you log in to your Blue Access for Members or Well onTarget account, you’ll enter your username and password, just like you’ve been doing.

Then, before getting into your account, you will be asked to choose to get a one-time verification code either by text message or by email.

Next, you will get the code from your text message or email and enter it in the box on the login screen. You can check the box to have the system remember your device for 30 days, or leave that box empty and get a new passcode each time you log in.

Once you’ve entered your one-time passcode, you’ll be logged in to your account.

Why is BCBSTX updating the login process?

With an extra layer of security, it’s harder for hackers and cyber thieves to log in to your account because they’d need your username and password, and they’d also have to have access to your phone or email account to get the passcode.

BCBSTX is committed to doing everything it can to keep your personal and health information safe. According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, using a two-step authentication is one of the top things that security experts do to protect their security online. It’s one simple step that goes a long way in reducing the likelihood you will be a victim of a cyber crime.
