The time to get your flu shot is now!

The time to get your flu shot is now!

If it’s time for a pumpkin-spice latte, it’s also time for a flu shot.
Each year, on average, 5% to 20% of the U.S. population gets the flu, tens of thousands are hospitalized and thousands die from flu-related illness, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports.

Your best defense: Get a flu shot! Get one this month.

The CDC recommends getting a flu vaccine before the flu season begins. Why? Because it takes about two weeks after the shot for those flu-fighting antibodies to work. If you didn’t get your flu shot in October, try to get it by the end of November.

The best strategy for the flu is to not get it in the first place. Take action to keep from getting sick during this tough flu season.

In addition to getting a flu shot, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that you wash your hands often. If you can, you should also avoid others who may be sick with the flu.

If you do end up getting the flu, follow these CDC recommendations for a speedy recovery.
