Mental health care when you need it

Good mental health plays a big role in your overall health. Your HealthSelectSM plan offers mental health benefits to help you stay focused and healthy.

As a HealthSelectSM plan participant, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) manages your medical benefits, and Magellan Healthcare® currently manages your mental health benefits. (If you are enrolled in the HealthSelectSM Out-of-State or HealthSelectSM Secondary plans, BCBSTX is currently your mental health benefits administrator.)

To better serve you, BCBSTX will begin managing your mental health benefits for HealthSelect of Texas® and Consumer Directed HealthSelectSM on September 1, 2020.

Please note: Your mental health benefits will not change because of this transition. Any deductibles, copays and coinsurance remain the same.

How will this affect me?

This change will make it easier for you to get support for any mental health benefits-related questions, because you’ll have just one number to call for medical and mental health questions. You will be able to view all of your medical and mental health claims on one website by signing in to Blue Access for MembersSM.

While most providers who were in-network for Magellan will also be in the HealthSelect network, some will not. Mental health providers will continue to be added to the HealthSelect network over the coming months, so check Provider Finder® or call a BCBSTX Personal Health Assistant for the most up-to-date information on network status. You will also have access to additional mental health providers who were not in the Magellan network.

If your provider is not joining the HealthSelect network, and you need help finding a new in-network provider, a BCBSTX Personal Health Assistant can help. Of course, if you would still prefer to see your current mental health provider, even if he or she is not in-network, you may do so—just remember, you pay more for services you get from out-of-network providers.

If you are currently getting care from a mental health professional, you can do the following:

  • Watch for informational letters in the mail that may contain actions you should take to avoid disruption of mental health care services.
  • Read these Frequently Asked Questions.
  • Visit the Mental Health page on the HealthSelect website for updates.
  • Use Provider Finder® or call a BCBSTX Personal Health Assistant to check if a mental health provider will remain in-network after September 1, 2020.

Use your HealthSelect Mental Health Benefits

As a HealthSelect participant, your mental health benefits cover mental health and substance use concerns, including anxiety, stress, depression, grief and drug and alcohol use.

For outpatient care, you may choose in-person office visits or online Virtual Visits with a licensed mental health professional. Some services, such as inpatient treatment or intensive outpatient hospital treatment, need a prior authorization before the plan will cover them.

To search for in-network providers, visit the HealthSelect website, log in to Blue Access for Members and click “Find a Doctor/Hospital” to access Provider Finder.

You can also call a BCBSTX Personal Health Assistant toll-free at (800) 252-8039, Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturday, 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. CT for help finding a provider. A BCBSTX Personal Health Assistant can help you find in-network providers or assist you with setting up a mental health Virtual Visit.
