Important Notice to HealthSelect of Texas® and Consumer Directed HealthSelectSM Participants in San Angelo
04/24/2025
We want you to know that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) is discussing new contracts with Shannon Medical Center. Contract negotiations with facilities are a normal process for insurance companies.
If Shannon Medical Center and BCBSTX do not reach agreement before May 23, 2025, Shannon Medical Center and Shannon Medical Center South Campus in San Angelo will no longer participate in the HealthSelectSM network. That means claims for services incurred after May 22, 2025, at Shannon Medical Center might be treated as out-of-network instead of in-network and could result in much higher out-of-pocket cost to you. Emergency service coverage will continue at the in-network benefit level. Facility providers, Shannon Clinic and its providers are not affected by this negotiation.
If the facility leaves the network, your HealthSelect plan may allow you to continue to receive in-network services from that facility under certain conditions and for a set amount of time. This is called continuity of care, and it could continue for a timeframe required by state or federal law.
Conditions that may be eligible for in-network continuity of care include:
- Treatment of a serious or complex condition
- Institutional or inpatient care
- A scheduled nonelective surgery, including post-operative care
- Pregnancy or course of treatment for pregnancy
- Terminal illness
If you would like more information about continuity of care, call a BCBSTX Personal Health Assistant at (800) 252-8039 (TTY: 711), Monday – Friday 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. or Saturday 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. CT. A BCBSTX Personal Health Assistant can also:
