2023 Summer Enrollment
Health Care - Wherever You Are
Know your options for medical coverage
Summer Enrollment is still ongoing for many active employees and retirees not eligible for Medicare. If the two-week Summer Enrollment phase assigned to your agency, college or university hasn’t already closed, you still have the opportunity to choose a new HealthSelectSM medical plan or change your current coverage for yourself and your eligible dependents. Plan changes will be effective Sept. 1, 2023.
Visit the HealthSelect Summer Enrollment webpage where you’ll find:
· “Health Care Wherever You Are” Brochure: Explains health plan options, changes to medical benefits and how to access important resources. QR codes and links throughout the brochure will take you to important information on the HealthSelect website.
· Plan Comparison Charts: Provides side-by-side plan details for comparison.
· HealthSelect of Texas® Summer Enrollment Presentation: Provides an overview of the HealthSelect of Texas or HealthSelectSM Out-of-State plan benefits.
· Consumer Directed HealthSelectSM Summer Enrollment Presentation: Provides an overview of the Consumer Directed HealthSelect plan.

Jason’s Journey
Jason has worked for a Texas state agency for years and has always kept his HealthSelect of Texas medical plan. Even after getting married and adopting a child, he added his family but never thought to compare plans available to him.
This year, Jason and his spouse are looking for ways to grow their savings, so he wants to make sure he is getting the coverage his family needs, at a price that is right for their situation. He attends a Summer Enrollment fair where he picks up the latest benefits and plan comparison brochures. He takes the opportunity to talk to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) representative and learns about the Plan Decision Tool on the HealthSelect website.
When Jason gets home, he goes onto the website, and launches the Plan Decision Tool. By working through the tool, Jason learns that the Consumer Directed HealthSelect plan may be a better option for his family. They have enough savings to cover the deductible, and their use of health care and prescriptions is moderate. He is pleased to know that the State will deposit money into his health savings account, and he plans to match their contribution so that he can build up his account.
After one last review of the details with his spouse, Jason completes his 2023 Summer Enrollment selection.
