Your tool to save money on health care services and procedures

Miriam, a HealthSelect of Texas® medical plan participant, was feeling tired, and had shortness of breath and swelling in her legs. Her primary care provider (PCP) recommended she see a heart specialist. Miriam’s PCP submitted a referral to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) for an in-network doctor.

Miriam’s heart specialist ordered a cardiac CT scan. Miriam logged in to her Blue Access for MembersSM account to find in-network imaging centers nearby. She was pleased to find CT scan providers that qualified for HealthSelectShoppERSSM rewards.

Miriam found a lower-cost, in-network facility with high quality ratings to perform her cardiac CT scan. She chose that facility and was eligible for a $100 reward through HealthSelectShoppERS. The reward was deposited into a TexFlex health care flexible spending account (FSA) the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) opened for her. Eligible HealthSelect participants can earn up to $500 per plan year per household.

Shop around for your services and procedures

Like Miriam, as a HealthSelectSM medical plan participant, you can compare costs for certain services and procedures at in-network facilities through the HealthSelectShoppERS program. HealthSelectShoppERS may even help you save money on quality health care and earn health care FSA rewards for choosing cost-effective care.

If you are an active employee and are enrolled in HealthSelect of Texas, HealthSelectSM Out-of-State or Consumer Directed HealthSelectSM, you may be able to take advantage of HealthSelectShoppERS. Consumer Directed HealthSelect participants can earn rewards deposited to a limited-purpose FSA, which can be used for dental and vision care expenses. Retirees and Medicare primary plan participants are not eligible.
