Prior authorizations are no longer required
All HealthSelect of Texas plans—including Consumer Directed HealthSelect, HealthSelect Out-of-State and HealthSelect Secondary—no longer require prior authorizations for medical services. Please note there are still prior authorization requirements for some prescription drugs.
Your providers may choose to ask Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) for an optional pre-service clinical review of your upcoming services to make sure they meet coverage guidelines and are medically necessary; however, this clinical review is optional. If your in-network provider chooses not to request a review before providing your service, you won’t be responsible for any charges determined to be not medically necessary. If you receive care from an out-of-network provider, you may be responsible for more of the cost.
If you have any questions about your HealthSelect medical plan benefits, call a BCBSTX Personal Health Assistant toll-free at (800) 252-8039 (TTY: 711), Monday – Friday 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. CT. You can also chat with a BCBSTX Personal Health Assistant via Blue Access for MembersSM or via the BCBSTX App, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. CT.
