6 Steps to Jump Start Your Medical Benefits

Whether you’re new to a HealthSelectSM medical plan or have had your coverage for a while, following this six-step checklist is a great way to make the most of the tools and resources available to you and get the most value from your plan.

1.     Use your new medical ID card

All HealthSelect participants were mailed a new medical ID card at the end of 2022. If you did not get your card, log in to Blue Access for MembersSM or call a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas Personal Health Assistant to request one.

You can also access a digital medical ID card through the BCBSTX App.

2.     Register for Blue Access for Members online or though the BCBSTX App

Blue Access for Members is your online participant portal where you can:

·       view your claims,

·       find in-network doctors, hospitals and other providers,

·       choose or change your PCP,

·       confirm your prior authorizations and referrals on file.

With the BCBSTX App, your Blue Access for Members account is at your fingertips wherever you are. Text BCBSTXAPP to 33633 to download the app.

3.     Choose a primary care provider (PCP)

Your PCP serves as your first point of contact when you need non-emergency medical care or if you need a referral or prior authorization for certain services.

HealthSelect of Texas® participants must have a PCP on file with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) to receive the highest level of benefits. Everyone can benefit from having a PCP, even if your plan doesn’t require that you have one.

4.     Schedule your annual wellness check-up

Your preventive care, like annual check-ups, mammograms and colonoscopies, will be covered at no cost to you as long as you see an in-network provider and have a PCP on file with BCBSTX if you are enrolled in a plan that requires one.

5.     Sign up for Well onTarget®

Well onTarget is an online wellness portal that offers personalized resources and incentives to support you on your wellness journey.

To access the portal, log in to Blue Access for Members and click on the Wellness tab. For Well onTarget on the go, download the AlwaysOn® Wellness App.

6.     Complete your Health Assessment

Answer a series of questions about lifestyle and health habits, and the Well onTarget Health Assessment helps identify what you are doing well and where there are opportunities for improvement.

Completing these six steps will give you a good overview of the health and wellness tools available to you as part of your HealthSelect medical plan benefits and set you up to make the most of your benefits.
